Smithsonian Collection & Making the Invisible Visible

The reading is about how the Smithsonian brings objects into its collection through a similar process to the artifact research we did for our cultures. Records of the collections are kept to preserve its history. The objects they collect can represent a cultural norm much like our artifacts we collected.

In Making the Invisible Visible the author speaks of his design practices. The topics he stresses are the theme and the concept. He uses his interviews with the client to come up with the theme and concept. Making a list of the words they use most to describe the business he orders them in importance to find the theme. Less important words go to the concept.  He then stresses the need to stay on theme and not to wonder away from it so that the project will be successful.
