Rosedale Lunchroom Redesign Final Presentation

Rosedale Middle School Lunchroom Redesign

Rosedale Volunteer Work

Erika and my volunteer work for Rosedale was to drive around the area and take photos of notable and interesting pieces of the Rosedale landscape and culture. We ended up driving around for an hour and tired to get lost the best we could inside of the area to see things that we hadn't been introduced to before in the initial tour by the RDA. Somehow we still ended up by the Sauer Castle, but we also got to see new things like the huge, sweet drive-in theater sign. We also found a rather interesting bull statue perched above a local pawn shop. These pictures are for the Rosedale community newsletter and will be part of the Rosedale quiz section where locals try to figure out what something is from the image provided. The newsletter is in grayscale, so we went ahead and treated the images for strong contrast.

Wk 8 Readings

Sustainable Business
This company seems like the bee's knees. The section on McDonald's makes me wonder why they haven't changed their way of doing business in the US? If the majority of our culture cared more about their food source and started to boycott would they change the way they do business? Especially if McDonald's already knows that this sustainable method works in Sweden.

Cradle to Cradle
This reading makes me wonder about our own studio practices. Why do we print off so many paper iterations if we now the ecological impact of this practice?

HE MIGHT BE GIANT
Is it the fate of successful anti-consummerist design to eventually become commercial gold. Or can this fate be stopped by the control of the original designer?

GUERRILLA STREET POSTERING
How could guerilla postering be brought into the year 2012 and capitalize on modern technology?

ADBUSTER
How would a designer objectively determine the cost of something? What are the unit of measurement?

MX: Community

The first community I felt that I belonged to was the art community. I identified myself with the more liberal students that were beside me as opposed to the highly conservative students I went to school with. With the new artsy students I found an acceptance of difference and individuality in the pursuit of creativity. North Face vs. paint splattered clothes.

Another community I feel I belong to is the Reddit community. Though we do not know each other intimately we share the same love of sharing what we find on the internet and in our lives. Reddit also has subreddits where members can ask for help and share their problems. Most responses are truly trying to help and you can find compassion.

As an introvert these communities feel like a home for me. They give me engagement in social activities, but do not overwhelm me and suck out all of my energy. They allow you to be an individual without the pressure of conforming to a acceptable norm.
